Last day to vote in Saskatoon Meewasin by-election

March 2, 2017 – Today is the last day for eligible voters in the constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin to cast their ballot.

All 44 regular polling polls opened on time at 9 a.m. today. They will remain open until 8 p.m. tonight.

There will be 50 ballot boxes reporting after 8 p.m. this evening. This number is comprised of:

The final, official count is March 14. By law, two additional ballot boxes will be opened and counted on March 14:

  • 1 box for absentee voting (note 101 absentee applications were requested by people wanting to vote by mail. They have until March 12 to return their ballot/envelope.)
  • 1 box for the voting at Saskatoon City Hospital on Thursday.

The final count on March 14 will include all 52 ballot boxes.

(Note as of 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, due to a small number of votes recorded at the Saskatoon City Hospital poll, this poll will be reported as one combined ballot box with the 1 absentee poll. Therefore, the total ballot boxes to be reported at the final count will now be 51.)

All 12,121 registered voters should have received a Voter Information Card (VIC) in February. This card details where and when to vote and what ID to bring. To make the voting experience easier and faster, voters should bring their VIC with them to vote.

If you are an eligible voter and don’t have a VIC or don’t know where to vote, you can either look up your polling place online at http://pollfinder.elections.sk.ca or call 1-877-958-8683. Any eligible voter who is not yet registered can still register in person when they go to vote. All voters must show ID before receiving their ballot.

To vote in the Saskatoon Meewasin by-election you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Have lived in Saskatchewan for at least the six months before the day the by-election was called (Aug. 3, 2016);
  • Ordinarily be a resident of the constituency of Saskatoon Meewasin.
