June 14, 2016 – The assessment of Saskatchewan’s 28th General Election in April was the main topic of the fourth annual Registered Political Parties Advisory Committee Meeting.

Since 2013, Elections SK hosts representatives from Saskatchewan’s six registered political parties for a one-day meeting, held this year in Regina on June 14.

This year, party representatives participated in presentations and discussions on:

  • Elections Saskatchewan’s Assessment Project:
    • This session was led by Jill Lawrance, Director, Corporate Planning and Event Leader with Elections BC, and a member of the Elections Saskatchewan Assessment Committee;
  • Evaluating the Election: Perceptions of ESK Stakeholders:
    • This session focused on the post-election survey of Elections Saskatchewan stakeholders, and was led by Jessica McCutcheon, a researcher with the Social Science Research Laboratory at the University of Saskatchewan;
  • Proposal for a technology-enabled staffing model for Ontario’s provincial elections:
    • Greg Essensa, Chief Electoral Officer for the Provincial of Ontario, delivered a presentation on a new elections staffing model that Elections Ontario is proposing for Ontario voters.

“We connect with Saskatchewan’s registered political parties before, during and after electoral events,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “I always look forward to these meetings as our political parties are key stakeholders for Elections Saskatchewan, and we continually learn what’s important to them and how we can best work together.”

“This year’s meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss a draft Information Sharing Agreement (ISA) between Elections Saskatchewan and each of the six registered political parties. This ISA formalizes the sharing of voters list information in order to protect the privacy of Saskatchewan’s electorate. It defines the conditions for sharing and other elements such as safeguards, a privacy impact assessment and a process for notifications. I look forward to working together with the parties and having this ISA approved and signed by all in the near future.”

Elections Saskatchewan is the province’s independent, impartial, professional election management body. Given a mandate from the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly, it organizes, manages and oversees provincial electoral events.
