Two short messages regarding the pending by-election in Saskatoon Fairview as well as an update on the conference we are hosting next week.

By-Election Voter Registration

On Monday, July 17, Elections SK will begin encouraging voters in Saskatoon Fairview to ensure they are registered to vote and that the information we have is accurate. Voters can choose to visit our online registration portal at www.elections.sk.ca/voterregistration/ or give our office a call at 1-877-958-8683.

Deadlines for voter registration will depend on the date of the by-election. Once this is established, these deadlines will be communicated to you through a by-election communique.

Saskatoon Fairview Polling Divisions

In Issue One of the Saskatoon Fairview By-Election Communiques, I mentioned that we would be moving forward with the same polling divisions and maps used during the April 2016 general election. This remains true, but there has been one label change that I want to draw to your attention.

The polling division previously identified on the map as “S1” will now be labeled as “Poll 50” and reported as such. The boundary and administration of the polling division will remain the same as it was during the general election, the only change is the labeling. We are not planning to reprint constituency maps due to this minor change but if you would like a new constituency map, please contact Jennifer Colin, Deputy CEO, at jennifer.colin@elections.sk.ca. Jennifer can also help you with any questions you have related to this change.

Conference of Canadian Election Officials

During our recent meeting, I mentioned that Elections Saskatchewan would be hosting the annual Conference of Canadian Election Officials. The conference is held in different jurisdictions each year, with each election management body hosting once every 14 years. Beginning Sunday, July 16, we will host about 40 election administrators from across the country. I am honoured to have the opportunity to show Canada’s national, provincial and territorial election administrators the work that we are doing. I always appreciate the chance to speak of the positive, productive relationship we have with our registered political parties in Saskatchewan. This is something I do not take for granted. Following the conference, I hope to be able to share some relevant materials with you.

Best wishes to you all over the summer months. As always, I hope that you’ll be in touch with us with comments or questions.

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
