November 9, 2024. The Final Count of ballots cast for Saskatchewan’s 30th General Election is complete.
“All ballots have now been counted,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “The Final Count is an important step in the election process that takes place, by legislation, 12 days after the last day of voting.”
A total of 471,087 ballots were cast during this election. This represents 56.8 percent of the 829,884 estimated eligible voters, the province’s highest turnout since 2007, when 60.8 percent of eligible voters voted.

During the Final Count, eligible vote by mail ballots received between Oct. 27 and Nov. 7 were counted, along with votes cast in hospitals and remand facilities on the last day of voting, October 28. The Final Count also included all 61 returning offices verifying that their results were entered correctly on the evening of October 28. The process at returning offices did not involve a recounting of ballots, but a verification of the earlier figures.
Following the completion of the Final Count, candidates and financial agents can request a recount until Wednesday, November 20, 2024. After that deadline, all 61 returning offices complete a Return to the Writ and send it to the Chief Electoral Officer. Upon receiving this, the Chief Electoral Officer must inform the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of the winning candidates, who can then be sworn in as Members of the Legislative Assembly.
