November 13, 2020. No candidates or business managers have requested an automatic recount of results for the 29th General Election. The deadline to serve such a request on the constituency returning officer was end of day on Thursday, November 12.

A candidate or business manager is entitled to request an automatic recount if the margin of victory is less than the total number of ballots rejected, ballots objected to and unopened ballot envelopes.

Candidates or business managers can still apply to a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench for a recount if they believe it to be necessary. The deadline for this application is end of day on Tuesday, November 17.

Following the completion of the period set aside for recount requests and applications, the Return to the Writ will take place on Wednesday, November 18. During the Return to the Writ, each of the province’s 61 returning officers must confirm the name of the candidate elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and provide it to the Chief Electoral Officer. After the Chief Electoral Officer receives this information, he must provide it in writing to the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. This process marks the formal end of the Writ Period.

Elections Saskatchewan (ESK) is the province’s nonpartisan election management body and an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. ESK directs and supervises the administration of provincial electoral events, including the 2020 provincial election.
