October 26, 2020. After five days of advance voting and two months of vote by mail ballot applications, election day has arrived in Saskatchewan.
“Organizing and delivering a provincial election during a pandemic has been challenging and we are really encouraged by the participation so far,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer of Saskatchewan. “Over the past week and today, we have had about 15,000 Saskatchewan residents serving our province and their communities as election workers. We’ve had a record number of vote by mail applications since August and record advance voting turnout last week. These are signs of a healthy democracy even in uncertain times.”
At 9 a.m. today, 2,814 polls opened in 1,143 locations around Saskatchewan. They will remain open until 8 p.m. tonight. After 8 p.m. ballots from advance voting, election day and personal care facilities will be counted. Starting Oct. 28, vote by mail ballots will begin counting. The Final Count on Nov. 7 will include all vote by mail ballots plus ballots cast at returning offices, hospital, remand and temporarily displaced voter ballots, and extraordinary voting ballots.
