November 20, 2024 – The final stage of the 2024 provincial election was today with Saskatchewan’s 61 returning officers returning their writs of election to Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Michael Boda.

“This general election began on October 1 with the issuing of 61 writs of election, and this electoral event officially comes to an end today with the returning of these writs to me from our returning officers,” says Dr. Boda. “After receiving these, I informed the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of the winning candidates as Members of the Legislative Assembly.”

Following the Final Count on November 9, candidates and financial agents had until today to request a recount. This deadline is now over, and no recounts will take place.

“A general election is not possible without the commitment and dedication of around 5,000 people who worked long days during Voting Week. They laboured even longer hours on the final day of voting by counting votes late into the evening and, in a few instances, even the early morning hours.”

“I offer a sincere thank you to everyone who took part, whether your friends and neighbours who worked the election itself, or the 470,000 who cast their ballot, demonstrating their commitment to their province, each other, and to democracy,” says Dr. Boda.

Elections Saskatchewan’s focus now shifts from administering the general election to reporting on it in a series of four volumes:

  • Volume I. Statement of Votes for the 30th General Election
    • Scheduled for release in spring 2025
  • Volume II. Administrative Overview
    • Scheduled for release in early summer 2025
  • Volume III. Statement of Expenditures
    • Scheduled for release in spring 2026
  • Volume IV. Legislative Change Recommendations
    • Scheduled for release in fall 2025

According to The Legislative Assembly Act, 2007, provincial elections occur every four years on the last Monday in October, unless there is a delay caused by a federal election call. Therefore, Saskatchewan’s 31st General Election is set to occur on October 30, 2028.
